WISE

WISE Feature this Month:

The world celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8, honoring women and their achievements in the social, economic and political arena. WISE promotes education for all and identifies effective learning programs that contribute to improving the lives of girls and women. March 8 was therefore an ideal opportunity to highlight this mission.

Although considerable progress has been made in closing the gender equity gap in education, two-thirds of the world’s 774 million adults who are functionally illiterate are women, a proportion that has not changed over the past 20 years.

Throughout the month of March WISE is featuring interviews, papers and videos on gender equity in education and a number of discussions are taking place on TwitterFacebookLinkedIn and MyWISE.

Learn about about the gender equity situation and how simple ideas can get girls into primary education and encourage them to progress to secondary school. Find inspiration from best practices together with examples of how training and mentoring can give women of all ages an active role in society. Take part in debates with the WISE community on the importance of education for girls and women.
