(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Educate A Child (EAC), a global programme of Education Above All Foundation (EAA), has received a donation of 40,000 (about QR227,533) from Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club UK.

The donation comes from proceeds of one of the races during the five-day Qatar Goodwood Festival in the UK to support EAC's projects providing access to primary education around the world. 'Educate A Child Stakes' is the name of the race dedicated to EAC. Rashid Al Dehaimi, Representative of the Qatari embassy in London, received the cheque on behalf of EAA.

Marcio Barbosa, CEO, EAA Foundation, said, "Educate A Child programme has a target of reaching 10 million out-of-school children by the end of the next school year.

"We have reached over five million children. What we need to reach our goal are funds from individual donors and organisations such as the club, to which EAA is grateful for its donation today. The race will also serve to raise awareness of EAC work."

EAA has received donations this year from government development, sport and corporate organisations, including Men's Handball World Championship, Korean International Cooperation Agency, French Development Agency, Qatar Equestrian and Racing Club, Qatar Insurance Company, W Doha Hotel & Residences, and Ali Bin Naser Al Misnad Transport and Trading, among others.

Later this year, UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will end, including MDG2, achieving universal primary education.

Despite the goal there remain 58 million out-of-school children worldwide. EAA is working to raise awareness and funds to complete the unfinished agenda of primary education to ensure children out of school are not forgotten.
